Material Choice

PE-RT or PEX-a? Both Hydronic, Both Oxygen-Barrier — Here’s How to Stock Them

For radiant floor heating you have two workhorse materials. The difference is coiling behaviour, connection method and price point — not whether they’re safe for a closed loop.

PE-RT (raised-temperature polyethylene) coils easily, is economical, needs no cross-linking proof, and is the volume choice for slab loops — most wholesalers stock it as the core line. PEX-a adds thermal-memory shape recovery (kinks recover with heat) and works with cold-expansion fittings, favoured on jobs that want that connection method. Both are hydronic (water), both carry an EVOH oxygen barrier, and both pair with our manifolds.

Why the Oxygen Barrier Decides Whether the System Survives

In a sealed hydronic loop, oxygen is the enemy. Ordinary polyethylene lets oxygen diffuse straight through the pipe wall into the water — and that dissolved oxygen corrodes everything metal behind it.

That dissolved oxygen attacks every ferrous and metal component — the boiler heat exchanger, the pump, the manifold — and you get sludge, corrosion and warranty callbacks that surface years later. An EVOH oxygen-barrier layer stops that diffusion. This is exactly why DIN 4726 specifies an oxygen barrier for underfloor-heating pipe.

Every Hitze UFH coil is built with an EVOH barrier per DIN 4726. It’s the difference between a pipe that just carries water and a pipe that protects the whole plant behind it.

  • Standard: EVOH oxygen barrier per DIN 4726
  • Construction: multilayer PE-RT / PEX with a dedicated EVOH oxygen-barrier layer
  • Protects: boiler, circulator pump, manifold and valves from oxidation corrosion
  • Applies to: both PE-RT and PEX lines, sizes 16–32 mm
  • Service life: 50-year design service life
  • Test evidence: oxygen-permeation test results available on request

Sizes & Coils

Coil Sizes & Lengths — Run the Loop Without Splicing Mid-Slab

Contractors lose time and trust when a coil runs out in the middle of a slab. We size UFH coils so a full loop lays in one run.

Our EVOH oxygen-barrier PE-RT & PEX floor-heating pipe runs from 16mm (the radiant-floor default) through 20mm, 25mm and 32mm, in the wall thicknesses below, with coils from 100 m to 300 m to match typical loop lengths per market.

Pipe + Manifold

One System: Pipe + Manifold, Sized to Match

A radiant floor isn’t a pipe — it’s a system. Sell the system, not a bag of mismatched parts.

Our 16mm and 20mm UFH pipe is dimensioned to pair cleanly with Hitze brass and stainless-steel underfloor-heating manifolds, so your customer gets loops, flow-setters and connections that actually fit each other. For private-label brands and importers, that means you sell a complete radiant floor package under your label.

  • Pipe diameters matched to manifold outlet sizes (16 / 20mm)
  • Brass and stainless manifold options
  • Consistent connection method across the system

Wet vs Electric

Wet (Hydronic) vs Electric — We Supply the Water Side

“Underfloor heating” and “radiant floor heating” cover two very different systems. We’re on one of them.

Electric systems use resistance cables or mats under the floor. Wet / hydronic systems circulate warm water through pipe loops — driven by a boiler or heat pump — and that’s the whole point of a slab-embedded radiant floor: larger areas, better running economy and pairing with modern heat pumps.

Hitze supplies the wet, hydronic side only — PE-RT and PEX-a pipe, manifolds and fittings. We do not supply electric floor mats or cables. If your project is water-based radiant heating, you’re in the right place.

FAQ

Underfloor Heating Pipe — Buyer FAQ

Do your underfloor heating pipes really have an oxygen barrier?
For the Contractor / InstallerYes. Every PE-RT and PEX-a coil carries an EVOH oxygen-barrier layer per DIN 4726, which blocks oxygen from diffusing through the pipe wall into the loop. That protects your boiler, pump and manifold from oxidation corrosion — the failure that shows up as sludge and callbacks years later. Oxygen-barrier test data is available on request.
PE-RT vs PEX-a — which line should I stock as my core?
For the WholesalerStock PE-RT as your volume core: it coils easily, is economical, needs no cross-linking proof and suits most slab radiant loops. Add PEX-a for customers wanting thermal-memory kink recovery and cold-expansion fittings. Both are hydronic and both carry the EVOH oxygen barrier, so your shelf stays consistent on the safety spec.
What coil length do I get, and can I run a full loop?
For the ContractorWe size coils so you can lay a full loop without splicing mid-slab, in 16 / 20 / 25 / 32mm diameters. Coils run from 100 m to 300 m depending on size — for example 16×2.0 comes at 200 m, 20×2.0 at 300 m and 25×2.3 at 100 m per coil. Tell us your typical loop length and we’ll match the coil.
Can I get PE-RT under my own label, matched to a manifold?
For the Importer / Private-Label BrandYes. We supply PE-RT and PEX-a UFH pipe with EVOH oxygen barrier for private label, dimensioned to pair with our brass and stainless manifolds so you sell a complete radiant system. MOQ, coil lengths and cert support (cUPC / NSF / DVGW / WRAS direction) are confirmed per program — MOQ and starting coil length: coming soon. Request the TDS pack.
Which standards do your UFH pipes meet?
For the MEP / Spec BuyerOur underfloor heating pipe is built to align with the relevant NA and EU standards — EVOH oxygen barrier per DIN 4726, PE-RT to ISO 22391 / ASTM, PEX to EN ISO 15875 / ASTM F876, with cUPC / NSF / DVGW / WRAS support for potable-adjacent and market listing. Specific certificate and listing numbers are available on request.
