How It Works

What Does an Underfloor Heating Manifold Do?

A manifold is the distribution hub of a hydronic underfloor heating system — it splits one hot-water supply into balanced streams, one per heating loop, so every zone warms evenly.

Hot water arrives from the boiler or heat pump and enters the flow bar; the manifold splits it into equal, balanced streams — one per heating loop — so every zone reaches temperature at the same rate. Cooled water returns through the return bar back to the heat source.

Each loop is a flow/return pair: one outlet on the flow bar, one on the return bar. Balancing those loops is what makes a floor warm evenly instead of hot near the manifold and cold at the far wall — which is why per-loop flow meters matter. Without accurate metering, an installer is guessing.

  • Flow bar (top): feed, with a flow meter on each loop for hydraulic balancing.
  • Return bar (bottom): return, with actuator-ready ports (M30×1.5) for thermostatic zone control.
  • 1 port = 1 loop — count loops to count ports.

Port Range

Full Port Range: 2, 3, 4… Up to 12 Loops

One brand for the whole matrix. Stock every port count without juggling suppliers.

Pick the port count by loops, not by room count — large rooms often need two or more loops so no single run exceeds a practical length. As a rule of thumb, keep each loop to about ~100 m of pipe max, which at typical 150 mm spacing covers roughly ~15–20 m² of floor (varies with pipe pitch of 100–200 mm and diameter of 16/20 mm). Use the guide below as a starting point and confirm against a heat-loss calc.

Material Choice

Brass vs Stainless Steel Manifolds — Which to Spec?

Both do the same job; the choice is water chemistry, budget and positioning. Here’s the trade-level comparison.

Bottom line: stock brass as your volume line and stainless for premium and problem-water jobs. Hitze supplies both, 2–12 port, on the same order — and both carry the same flow-meter and actuator specification, so installers get one workflow regardless of material.

What’s Inside

Manifold Components — Balanced, Controllable, Serviceable

A Hitze manifold assembly ships loaded so installers commission faster.

  • Per-loop flow meters — on the flow bar for visual hydraulic balancing. Flow range and accuracy available on request.
  • Actuator-ready return portsM30×1.5 thread for thermostatic actuators, enabling per-room zone control.
  • Isolation ball valves — flow and return shut-off for servicing without draining the system.
  • Automatic air vents + fill/drain — purge air (an oxygen-in-water problem for boilers and manifolds) and charge/empty loops.
  • End caps & mounting brackets — wall-mounted, ready to plumb.

Because trapped oxygen corrodes steel components, our UFH pipe uses an EVOH oxygen-barrier layer per DIN 4726 — pairing an oxygen-tight pipe with the manifold protects the whole hydronic loop.

One Compatible Kit

Manifold + Matched PE-RT Pipe, One Compatible Kit

Sourcing the manifold and the pipe from two vendors is where compatibility problems start.

Hitze also manufactures PE-RT underfloor heating pipe with an EVOH oxygen barrier (DIN 4726), sized 16 and 20 mm to match our manifold outlets (¾” EK Euro-cone / compression adaptors). Order pipe and manifold together and get a single, tested, warranty-aligned kit — plus one PO, one lead time, one label.

Fits PEX and multilayer too: outlets adapt to 16/20/25 mm PE-RT, PEX and PEX-AL-PEX. See Underfloor Heating Pipe and Multilayer PEX-AL-PEX.

FAQ

Underfloor Heating Manifold FAQ

Brass or stainless steel — which manifold should I fit?
For the ContractorChoose brass for mainstream hydronic UFH: DZR lead-free brass (CW724R) resists corrosion, machines cleanly and costs less. Choose stainless (304/316) for hard or aggressive water and premium jobs. Both Hitze lines share the same M30×1.5 actuator ports and flow-meter setup, so your install workflow doesn’t change between materials.
How many ports should I stock?
For the WholesalerStock the full spread. One port equals one loop, and a loop runs up to about ~100 m of pipe max — roughly ~15–20 m² of floor at typical 150 mm spacing. Real homes mix sizes, so 4–6 port sells fastest, with 2–3 and 8–12 for small and large jobs. Hitze offers 2–12 port in brass and stainless on one order and one label.
Are flow meters included, and accurate enough to balance loops?
For the ContractorYes — standard assemblies ship with a per-loop flow meter on the flow bar for visual hydraulic balancing, plus isolation valves and actuator-ready return ports. Documented flow range and accuracy are on the spec sheet. Exact range (L/min) and accuracy (%) figures for the current manifold range are coming soon.
Will it fit my customers’ pipe, and can I brand it?
For the Importer / Private-Label BuyerOutlets take ¾” EK Euro-cone or compression adaptors for 16/20/25 mm PE-RT, PEX and multilayer — and Hitze makes matched PE-RT underfloor heating pipe for a single compatible kit. Yes to private label: your brand on the assembly and box. Request the Cert Pack; MOQ and lead time coming soon.
What certifications back the range?
For the DistributorHitze builds to NA and EU standards: cUPC / NSF/ANSI 61 (NA), DVGW / WRAS / CE + DoP (UK/EU), DIN 4726 oxygen barrier on the paired pipe, DZR lead-free brass. Specific certificate and listing numbers are available on request — request the full Cert Pack for the documents your market requires.
